POPULAR KITCHEN ISLAND LAYOUTS

Let’s maximize your island’s potential.

Your kitchen island can be a concoction of many things: storage, workflow management, a place to put appliances. Where do we start figuring out which configuration works best for you and your kitchen? We’ve got a few options to introduce that will get us on the right track.

Perhaps the most obvious use of our selections is extra storage. When it comes to your needs and storing pantry items, you can never get enough room! No matter how big or small your island is, it’s a great place to designate some extra storability.

A similar alternative includes a hybrid of storage and stool seating. Depending on the overall layout of your kitchen, you may find importance in hosting guests or chatting while making dinner. You can also add a few additional decorative elements to your island this way. Leg posts can vary in design and size, which create a personal touch to your kitchen island.

If you’re intent on maximizing as much storage space as possible, there is another option to explore. In coordination with your typical front facing cabinets, you can also add shallow depth cabinets onto the backside of the island. If your layout has space for it, shallow cabinets won’t impede on your island seating space. The countertop overhang should be long enough to provide ample space for stools.

Kitchen islands can also play host to certain functional objects, such as sinks and appliances. It is not uncommon for Dahlia Design to place a microwave cabinet in your island, and stove tops can work here as well.

There are unlimited possibilities for island layouts, but these are a few of the most popular configurations!
