Space Saving Cabinet Solutions

Spatial and organizational efficiency can make a big difference in a kitchen or bathroom. Whether your existing space is large and airy or compact and quaint, everyone can benefit from making the most out of the space they have. Get ready to explore some of Dahlia Design’s favorite space-saving cabinet strategies!

While administering the first phases of a cabinet layout, one of our most frequent sore spots is the corners of the room. It would be completely passable to use a typical lazy susan corner cabinet in this instance. However, we love using blind corner cabinets to add a bit of spice. A blind corner cabinet appears to be a normal front-facing door but stretches back into the hidden corner space where the eye cannot see.

Blind corner cabinets are also easily accessible with peanut shaped shelves that can be pulled out of the cabinet. We use a multitude of different widths to accommodate your kitchen size, and they come in both base and wall cabinets designs.

Our next space saving cabinet solution comes into play just as often as the blind cabinet. For areas that have an awkward amount of width between them, we turn them into a designated skinny cabinet for items like cooking sheets and cutting boards. If there is enough room for shelves, we turn it into a thin pullout drawer for spices, utensils, and other cooking supplies.

An additional space saving solution that we practice at Dahlia Design is ceiling height cabinets. They offer the maximum amount of storage while appearing as a custom built-in feature. Any combination of styles look beautiful with this functional space saving tactic.

“Space saving” can also mean giving something a designated place. One of our favorite items to designate a cabinet for is a trash and/or recycling bin. It reduces clutter buildup in the kitchen while providing visual organization. We use trash cabinets that are designed as a single drawer unit, and can accommodate one or two bins depending on client preference.

These are just a few solutions that work at utilizing every square inch of space possible, but its worth it! Creating the most functional and efficient version of your space makes the end product all that much sweeter, and implementing corner cabinets, skinny pullouts, ceiling height cabinets, and designated areas for utilities is a perfect way to get started.
