Cabinet Trends of 2024
Storage, statement, and super fun to design!
Cabinets, our favorite storage unit of every kitchen and bath combo! They provide so much functionality in any workspace and updates are making them even more savvy. How are designers mastering the art of cabinet conveniency? What’s trending when it comes to stylization and personalized flare?
First and foremost, the functionality of your kitchen and/or bathroom are top priority. There are many ways this can go, whether you’re looking for some space saving solutions, wishing to add an island addition, or wanting to learn more about storage alternatives. A few leading popularities include pull-out waste/recycling drawers, spice storage, and even microwave cabinets.
Dahlia Design’s popular Woodharbor materials from Left to Right: Thyme enamel on Maple; Natural stain on Walnut; Natural stain on Maple; Doeskin stain on Knotty Alder.
Following close behind are deep drawers, cutlery storage solutions, and Lazy Susans. Visual clutter can be annoying to deal with and interfere with the stylization of your home. Providing designated spaces for objects like your waste basket, appliances, and others is a great way to ensure purpose for these items and ease anxiety about clutter. We must also consider age in place accommodations, which shines a spotlight on wide drawer pulls, wheelchair accessibility, and our previously mentioned pull out cabinets.
Now that we’ve covered the functional ideals of cabinet trends, let’s cover an important design concept you may not think about much: inset vs. overlay cabinet doors. Inset cabinet doors are your classic traditional look, which puts the cabinet door flush with the cabinet frame. This provides a more furniture-like look, which can be great for adding some coziness to your design. If you’re looking for something more modern, you may be interested in overlay cabinets. Overlay allows the cabinet doors to cover the entire frame, which can provide clean lines and simplicity.
When it comes to picking your cabinet color the timeless option always appears to be white, which isn’t wrong! However, two toned cabinet colors are extremely popular as of late. A favorite combination of colors among Dahlia Design clients is white and wood grain, specifically with the wood grain placed on the island cabinets.
Dahlia Design’s popular two-toned colors from Woodharbor: Natural stain on Quarter Sawn White Oak & Cascade White enamel on Maple.
Between the two types of cabinet door styles, we’ve found that clients enjoy mixing traditional and modern styles together. For example, picking colored cabinets with an inset door and choosing woodgrain with an overlay style. Previously mentioned in another one of our blog updates, this is a great example of a desire for the “Modern Transitional” look.
Not only do we love beautifully designed cabinet combinations, we take pride in making them functionally custom to fit our client’s needs. There is a beautiful solution for all cabinet inquiries, both traditional and modern.
