FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Who should I contact for on-site project related questions once the project begins?
Our project manager is available to keep you up to date and answer any of your questions once the project begins. You are also more than welcome to reach out to the contacts in the office you have been working with leading up to the project.
Can Dahlia Design move my appliances for me?
Dahlia Design employees can shift your old or new appliances into an adjacent room, but are not able to move the appliances into the garage, down stairs, or to other levels of the home. We are not set up with the proper equipment or training to do so and need to protect our employees so they are able to do the work they excel at! During demo, the old appliances will be moved to a nearby room. If you are getting new appliances, we suggest purchasing the option to have the appliance company take the old appliances when they are there to install the new ones. We can coordinate the appliance removal and installation dates for you during your project.
Is it possible to make changes and additions to the project scope of work after the project has begun?
We try to be as accommodating as possible with changes after the project has begun. Changes or additions to the scope of work can add cost to the project and often lead to scheduling delays. It is best to sort out all of the details for your project before the project begins. Please do not be afraid to ask questions or bring up ideas during the planning process. If you run into this situation mid process and feel you would regret not making a change, talk to us as soon as possible and we will do our very best to accommodate.
After cabinet installation, why do my doors and drawer fronts look a little uneven?
When our carpenters initially install your cabinet door and drawer fronts, some doors and drawers may appear to be un-level, higher, or lower than others. At this phase of the project this is normal. The carpenters have not adjusted the door and drawer settings yet because they may get bumped by other workers throughout the remainder of the project. At the end of the project, when they are there to install cabinet hardware, the carpenters will go through the entire kitchen and make all of the micro adjustments to the doors and drawers so
everything in the space is perfectly adjusted.
Is service personalized or do I have to go through a third party such as a secretary?
At Dahlia Design Remodel, all projects are personalized. You will be working directly with a designer and project manager throughout your entire project.
Is your service all inclusive or do I need to source products myself and find subcontractors?
We are a full service remodeling company. We use carefully vetted products and subcontractors to ensure your project is completed on time and to the highest standard. If you happen to have a subcontractor you have used in the past you want to utilize in your remodel, we are more than happy to work with them. They will be scheduled into your project and are held up to the same craftsmanship and punctuality standards as our vetted subcontractor base. We prefer you utilize the materials that we to avoid product delays, quality issues, and increased labor costs, but will consider select types of products to incorporate into your project if you find a product you love that we don’t typically sell.
Who coordinates the remodel?
Dahlia Design Remodel will coordinate all aspects of your project to ensure the project runs smoothly and efficiently.
Should I be concerned about missing or incomplete items close to the end of the project?
Believe it or not, most of the finishing touches get completed during the last 10% of our time on the job. Often times we are waiting on other items to be completed before we can finish the remaining items such as sections of trim, molding, tile, transitions, and final cabinet adjustments to achieve the visually appealing installation. Our project manager will keep a punch list of remaining items left to finish, but if you ever feel nervous about certain elements that look incomplete, please feel free to reach out to the office or ask one of our crew members on site. We want to make sure you feel comfortable and at ease throughout the entire process.
How will everyone access my home throughout the project? Do I need to be home each morning?
To make your project as efficient as possible, we require a realtor box to be readily available during working hours throughout the project in case you are not there. Dahlia Design will supply a realtor box for your project. To keep projects on schedule, it is very important that workers can get into the home on the days they are scheduled. If access is not available, scheduling delays will occur. The project schedule lists estimated dates workers will be on the job. The starting times can vary each day depending on
what crew is there and what else they have going on each day. It is possible that they may also need to access the home on dates that are not listed on the schedule to finish up remaining portions of work. General working hours are 8 AM to 4 PM. The plumbing and HVAC crews sometimes start at 7 AM. In addition, workers may occasionally need to stay past 4 PM to finish a portion of work. If anyone needs to access your home over the weekend to keep the project on schedule (which is very rare), Dahlia Design will reach out to you to get approval.
Does winter weather impact your ability to work on my project?
Occasionally, extreme temperatures and snowfall can prevent us from being able to get to jobsites. However, we are able to work through most winter weather being that we are indoors the majority of the time! We just ask that you have your driveways and sidewalks clear of snow and ice by the time crews are expected to be on the job.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes – we are both licensed and insured. We require all of our subcontractors to be licensed and insured as well.
How long have you been in the trade?
We have been invoved in various aspects of the construction industry for over 25 years, providing us with a broad knowledge base used to complete your project to the highest quality standard.
Are initial estimates free?
We provide a complimentary design consultation to discuss your project ideas, general budgeting ranges, and our remodeling practices. In order to accurately quote a remodeling project, we need to put together a design specific to your space and quote directly off of that layout and your selected design finishes. Detailed estimates are included with our design packages following the complimenatry consultation.
I have heard many people get an estimate from remodeling companies and the actual bill varies significantly. Do you guarantee your estimate?
We take extra steps to complete a thorough analysis of your space to determine all elements involved in the scope of work for your project when we put together our detailed quotes. On 95% of our projects, the quoted costs do not change unless items are added to the scope of work mid process. Due to the nature of remodeling, there is a very slight possibility that we may uncover previously completed work in your home that is unsafe and needs to be addressed in order to pass inspections and ensure future safety in your home. For example we opened up a wall on a previous kitchen remodel and discovered the homeowner’s second story of their home was only being held up by two 2 x 4’s. In that scenario, we had to re-construct and re-support the wall. Something like this example is unforseeable to predict and outside of the standard of normal building practices for in homes. On the rare occasion that an issue like this occurs, the homeowner will be informed and we will handle repairs on a time and material basis to lessen the financial burden.
Do you have before and after pictures of other jobs?
Absolutely! Take a look at our website portfolio to see a wide variety of finished spaces. We often post blog and social media posts with before and after pictures of our projects as well.
Can you provide previous client reference info?
Many of our clients are more than happy to talk with you to share info about their previous experience working with us. We love our clients, but don’t want to bug them on a regular basis after their project. We can provide reference info if requested once you have received a detailed project quote and are serious about the possibility of working with Dahlia Design Remodel. You’ll likely be the next one on our reference list!!
